Growth Day is something special that is held only in Chong Boon Secondary School for the past four years. This day is specially planned for the school to set targets as a school to achieve the theme of the year ‘Beyond Bridging Gaps’. I felt that this year we, as a school, have achieved the purpose of Growth Day.
Unlike last year, this year was a bit different and interesting. In addition to the target setting, we had something more to do. During the earlier part of the day, we were briefed on the ’16 Habits of the Mind’. During this briefing we had a few of our schoolmates to do a talk relating to the trip they had been to during the December holidays from which Mr. Wong had related some of the incidents that were shared by them to the ‘16 Habits of the Mind’.
We had to create an advertisement for about thirty seconds to explain the meaning of the ’16 Habits of the Mind’. Our class was supposed to explain ‘Thinking and communication with clarity and precision’. We successfully did an advertisement but sadly, when it was screened at the school hall, most of them did not understand the concept. Though we did put in lots of effort, we were not able to deliver the message clearly to the school. I, not feeling discouraged about this, started to think of an alternative way that we could have put the video in order for the school to understand the whole concept better.
Aside from this, we also had to do our target setting for each of our subject. I was also inspired by the story my teacher told us. It was about how she managed to achieve what she wanted. I felt that it was time that I work harder to achieve what I wanted as well. Because nothing worthwhile comes easily, I have started working harder then I had.
From this Growth Day, I have indeed been inspired by many things. I hope it had also been the same with my friends and schoolmates. I hope Growth Day serves its purpose fully like this particular one every year.
